October was filled with exploring the magic of fall  and Halloween  fun!  Halloween decorations and  costumes were two very popular topics!  Nothing gets the conversation going better than asking what your child is going to be for Halloween!  The Mulberries, Redwoods and Sequoias have all settled in nicely to their routines. We have also been enjoying many  children from our other classes during the afternoon extended  care where we have fallen into our comfortable routines there as well, building friendships and enjoying our different afternoon activities.
While we were unable to host our Fall Family Picnic, we had a lot of fun here at school celebrating fall and Halloween.  Besides the individual Halloween classroom parties, we had school wide fun on our grassy knoll with goody bag decorating,  Halloween games and , of course, a photo op with pumpkins and haystacks!
With fire season in full swing, we have reviewed our  fire drill procedures, including on site and off site evacuations. The directors’ cell phones are registered with Contra Costa County’s Community Warning System as well as our local Nixle so we receive early notification of any emergency or emergency procedures. In the unlikely event that we should ever have to evacuate the school premises, we would relocate to Moraga Veterinary Hospital and possibly to the OSH parking lot as directed.  With the school closure due to the water damage, we were able to “test” our GROUPME texting app which proved to be a very fast and effective means of communication.  We  have made the few small adjustments that were brought to our attention.
In November, we will continue to celebrate fall and then we will move on to  our annual “Friendsgiving Week” and take time to be thankful for all of our new friends.  So that more children can join in on the fun, we will have our Friendsgiving activities the week before Thanksgiving  on Tuesday the 19th, Wednesday the 20th,  and culminating on Thursday the 21st with our traditional Friendsgiving soup!  So if your child comes to school on that Thursday, be sure to bring in a vegetable that morning to put in the pot!  The whole week is a lot of fun for everyone!
We at Growing Tree are thankful for all of you, even more so this year,  with all the support , kindness and thoughtfulness that you have surrounded us with.  We feel very lucky.
